KULTUR SOMMER WIEN children’s program
The Vienna Cultural Summer features nine pop-up stages throughout the city with a variety of genres such as cabaret, literature, music, dance & performance, theater and contemporary circus. Check out their Children’s program here.
“Cultural summer mornings smell sweetly of curious questions about the program even on public transport, they taste of sun and picnic blankets under large parasols, they sound like stomping and dancing feet as the rhythm dances from the stage into the audience, and they sometimes feel exciting, sometimes motivating, sometimes warm, brave, funny or tingling and usually too short.” Raffaela Gras, curator of the program for young audiences
CREATE YOUR OWN COMIC BOOK: Comic Drawing for 6+ years
INTRODUCTORY COURSE for 6-10 years with Christian Freer / Melanie Theilich and Iman Hassan.
*Drawing comics doesn’t have to be difficult. In this workshop for beginners, comic professionals Christian Freer, Melanie Theilich and Iman Hassan will give you valuable tips: How should a comic be structured? What do you have to do to make your characters look funny? Or how realistic should your character and their environment appear? The introductory course will mainly focus on character design. Everything from human figures to fantastic monsters will be drawn. Get your paper and pencils! The introductory workshops are not designed to be progressive, each workshop is self-contained and a follow-up workshop can be booked to continue.”

Institut für Jugendliteratur: Reading in the park
Every summer, the “Reading in the Park” campaign invites children aged 3 to 10 to immerse themselves in the exciting world of books. They can read, play, paint and – without showing an ID card! – borrow books without any red tape. The campaign has been very popular since 1981 and is an integral part of summer leisure activities for many families.
The extracurricular reading promotion project is organized by the Institute for Youth Literature on behalf of wienXtra as part of the Vienna Holiday Games. Blankets and book baskets with a wide range of picture books, children’s books and non-fiction books are laid out in playgrounds in parks for children to browse and borrow. Trained carers read aloud, do crafts and painting with the children and offer various accompanying animations.
